Restoring Your Database

This page contains steps to follow if you need to restore your TYR database after computer failure, loss, or damage. The instructions assume you have backed up your database at least once. As  explained in our instructions for backing up your database, we recommend doing a backup at the end of each day that you use TYR so you'll always have a current version.

IMPORTANT NOTE:
Before restoring your database, check to make sure you have the TYR application installed on your computer. If you need to reinstall the application, click here for instructions. If you cannot locate the .zip file containing the TYR installer program, contact TYR Support at 910-249-9696 or contact@toyourrescue.org.

To Restore Your Database

  • On the TYR Home screen under Administration, click the Backups button.

  • On the Manage Backups screen, click the leftmost cell on the row containing the most recent backup (or any one that would be the most up-to-date and accurate) to select that backup. Note the information in the File Name column; this is the name of the folder created by TYR when you created the backup, and it contains the backed up database file.

  • Click the Details ()button to open the Backup Detail screen. Here you can see the Backup Path showing the location where you stored the selected Backup.

  • Navigate to the Backup Path location to find the folder containing your backed up database file.

  • Open that folder and copy the file named “tyr.db.” If the folder also contains a file named “tyrsample.db," copy that as well. Ignore any other files.

  • In Windows Explorer, go to your Windows C:/ drive and find the folder named “TYRDB.” If a TYRDB folder doesn’t appear at the Windows C:/ level, then create one.

  • Paste the “tyr.db” file (and "tyrsample.db" if you copied that as well) into the TYRDB folder. If a file with the same name already exists, Windows will ask you what you want to do.

  • Choose the selection that will replace the existing file in the TYRDB folder with the one you are restoring.
