Assigning & Managing Behaviors

As you learned on the page for Adding & Managing Animal Behaviors, Traits, & Characteristics, you can create a list of behaviors, traits, and characteristics for each Animal Type in your system and then assign one or more of those traits or behaviors to animal records so they will appear on the Animal Report for potential fosters, adopters, and transfer recipients.
TYR allows you to assign one or more behaviors to a single animal and also to multiple animals at one time.

This page contains instructions for assigning traits and behaviors to selected animals, editing details about those assigned traits and behaviors, and deleting assigned traits and behaviors from animal records.

Assigning Behaviors, Traits, & Characteristics to One Animal

  •  On the TYR Home screen under Modules, click Animals to open the Manage Animals screen.

  •  In the center grid on the Manage Animals screen, select the animal to which you want to assign behaviors by clicking the cell at the farthest left of the row containing the animal's information.

  • In the row of blue buttons at the upper right of the grid, click the Animal Behaviors button () to open the Manage Behaviors, Traits, and Characteristics screen. (Note: If the selected animal already has assigned behaviors, they will appear in a grid on the right under "Behaviors Already Assigned to (Dog's Name).")

  • In the grid on the left side of the screen, select the behavior(s) you want to assign to the selected animal:
    TO ASSIGN:
    DO THIS:
    AND THEN DO THIS:
    AND THEN DO THIS:
    An individual behavior
Click the cell to the left of the behavior to select it.
    - Select "Yes" if the animal has this trait. Add an optional Comment if you wish.
    - Select "No" if the animal does not have this trait. Add an optional Comment if you wish.
    - Type "Unknown" in the Comments field and do not select "Yes" or "No" if you want the report to show you are unsure about the trait.

Note: As you can see in the Behaviors to be Assigned grid in the screen image above, you can set up  behaviors to which a simple "Yes" or "No" selection might not apply and instead require an explanatory or descriptive comment. Examples above are "Indoor/Outdoor?," "Activity Level" and "Obedience Level."
    Click Save.
Multiple behaviors adjacent to each other
Click the cell to the left of the topmost behavior you want to assign, hold down the Shift key on your keyboard, and then click the cell to the left of the bottommost behavior you want to assign.
Select "Yes" or "No." The selection will apply to all behaviors highlighted on the left side of the screen.

Note: When you select multiple behaviors, the Comments field is greyed out because it is intended for use with individual behaviors only. Therefore, for any traits you want to designate as "Unknown" or traits like "Activity Level" that require specific comments, you must assign those individually.
    Click Save.
Multiple behaviors not adjacent to each other
Click the cell to the left of the topmost behavior you want to assign, hold down the Ctrl key on your keyboard, and then click the cell to the left of each behavior you want to assign.

    Click Save.

Important Note about Deleting Behaviors: Because behaviors are an important part of the Animal Report, we encourage you to give careful consideration before deleting any behaviors assigned to an animal. Instead of deleting, you might simply want to add comments.

  • Click Delete. A confirmation message will appear (singular or plural, depending on how many behaviors you selected to delete).
